BURNOUT
As more are more of us are working remotely don’t let ‘burnout’ get you!
Have you heard of Burnout?
If you haven’t, the public health agency explained that burnout is categorised by three dimensions including:
Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion.
Increased mental distance from one’s job or feelings of negativism relating to one’s job.
Reduced professional efficacy.
Statistics from LinkedIn’s Glint revealed that burnout doubled from March (2.7%) to April (5.4%) and with more recent research indicating that furlough and layoffs are ‘bruising’ wellbeing.
Therefore, addressing burnout before it threatens workplace productivity and engagement is key.
There are several ways as business leaders you can help with this:
· Peer group sessions.
· Self-care days and workshops.
· Regular 1:1 catch ups.
· Taking time off.

EMPLOYEES, CYBER-ATTACK AND DATA POTECTION
As working from home becomes the norm, email has become an even more important method of communication for many UK employees. Email volumes have increased by 34% this year and inevitably, cybercriminals have sensed an opportunity.
More than a fifth of UK employees have received a COVID-themed phishing email and that is only the percentage who recognised and reported it. Although you have probably given your employees a good grounding in email security, you need to be extra vigilant at the moment.
Employees working remotely may not have as easy access to IT support to cast an eye over suspicious emails and the extra distractions that come with home working can lead to carelessness. Scammers will also take advantage of the sense of panic surrounding the pandemic to trick employees into giving up sensitive information.
Teaching your employees to spot the tell-tale signs of phishing could prevent significant damage to your company and will also spare the employee the stress and embarrassment of falling for a scam. It could also help them avoid damaging and distracting scams in their personal life which affect their performance at work.
Remote working also raises issues of data protection. GDPR laws can be unforgiving and they apply to your employees wherever they are working.
You should make it clear to your remote staff that they must handle personal data with the same care as they would in the office.
GDPR also applies to any data you collect for NHS Test and Trace. You are allowed to ask employees if they are experiencing symptoms, but you should only store this information if strictly necessary.
If you have any questions about data protection laws, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
