A report from PwC, which looked at data disclosed by 10,282 companies, found that 43% had reported a larger pay gap compared to the previous year.
For the year 2021-22, the pay gap stood at 12.9%, a decline of 0.3 percentage points on 2020-21. This means women earn on average 87p for every £1 earned by men.
When I worked in a corporate environment many years ago, I had a male counterpart who was in the same role as me but earned £15,000 more.
The individual was not more experienced than me, actually a lot less. He also was not performing.
At the time it was a big demotivator to me.
Luckily things have moved on but there is still a long way to go.
